surfing.
Surfing is an activity to ride the waves with or without
surfboard, and right now surfing has considered not only as a sport but has
become a lifestyle. Surfing lifestyle or surf culture began with the history of
surfing on Polynesians. The Polynesians culture influence the modern surfing
lifestyle, such as big wave culture, surfing art, spirituality, surf tourism,
and surf environmentalism. Since it becomes a lifestyle, there are some basic
rules to surfing that you need to know and follow. Here are some rules of
surfing you should do or you should not do to enjoy the Surf Culture.
First rule; don’t ever surf under the influence of alcohol
or any drugs. The influence of alcohol and drugs will affect your concentration
and judgment while surfing. Drink alcohol and surfing at the same time won’t
make you look cooler or better surfer. Keep the alcohol after surfing activity
or don’t drink at all since everything will get messy and you won’t be able to
surf at all.
The second rule is prepared yourself before going on surfing;
prepare your gear, wetsuit, and a surfboard. Then, wear a waterproof sun block
to protect your skin from burn, and warm up before you go surfing. Make sure
you know how to surf, or else go get information about surfing on the internet.
Keep practice before you go to beach to improve your surfing skill. Warming up
before surfing will prevent you from muscle injury and cramp. Make sure you
don’t eat food an hour before surfing.
The third rule, check the surrounding condition before
surfing. Check weather forecast, waves, and temperature conditions before go to
the beach. Make sure that your destination beach has lifeguards; it will ensure
your safety if something goes wrong. Then, check the other surfer locations and
give priority to any surfers who are closest to the waves. Make sure you don’t
distract other surfers by taking their waves, just wait for another waves.
Respect the locals and remember that you are a guest in that beach. Then,
choose the most comfortable waves for you; don’t push yourself too much since
it will be dangerous. Bring friends who know how to surf better than you and
observe him to help you improve your surfing.
The last rule is to remember that surfing is about having
fun. It is okay if you fail in catching waves, get thrown by your own board, or
overtaken by other surfer. Remember that you go to the beach and surf to get
all the fun, keep your safety, respect other surfer, other water users, and locals.
Well, enjoy the waves!
