How to Do the Catching Wave, Paddling, and Surfing Techniques

Some technique you should practice to become the wave rider

Before you go to the beach and try surfing, it is recommended for having slightly knowledge stuffs about how to surf and what techniques that can be applied. Thus, in this article, we will share to you the first lesson for the beginner about surfing. First thing you should do on the water is to have a try to surf on small and close waves. Then, hold your surfboard in position, where the surfboard won’t bounce back to your face due to the waves. Make sure that your position does not block the other surfer’s way. It is because, the position like that can be dangerous, as someone else hit you or vice versa. Keep alert since sometimes, there can be some surfboards hitting you anytime.

To try to face the beach, you can do it by keeping the surfboard at your side, picking the best waves to pick you up, and taking you to the shore. If you are a beginner surfboard, you don’t need to choose big waves since medium waves are enough to pick you up. By the time, the waves reach you, put the surfboard forward to the beach, and pull yourself into the board lying flat. Balance yourself on top of the board and paddle the board with your arms. As your speed increasing, keep the balance and lay a little further back on your back to avoid the fall. The paddling speed should be the same as the waves speed to able you to catch the wave. By experiencing small waves, you will gain confidence to surf in greater waves later on.

The goal of all of these is of course, you want to be able to stand on the surfboard and become a real wave rider or surfer. But beforehand, check whether you are a natural footed surfer or a goofy footed surfer. The easiest way to check is recognizing whether you most comfortable with your left foot forward or your right foot forward. If you feel more comfortable with your left foot forward then you are a natural footed surfer. If you feel more comfortable with your right’s, then you are a goofy footed.

To do the standing up on your board position, try the pop-up. Pop up is the move that takes you from paddling position into standing position. It is better to practice Pop Up in your own room before you try it on the sea. This move is very important in surfing, on which to be able to get up quickly and correct the foot position back is the main point of Pop Up. The correct ways to do it is by doing push up in board, and bring your legs under your body and positioned them into the correct foot positions and slowly get up into standing position.
