World’s first surf council formed on the Gold Coast
In an important world first, a gathering of surfing groups on the Gold Coast has formally consented to form a ‘Surf Council’ to behave while the official voice for the surfing community in the town. The initiative which began with accurate documentation quantity of representatives in December is about to produce a template for other surf cities to follow along with internationally.
The move is observed while the beginning of formalising surfers in to a collective to deal with numerous regional dilemmas, you start with a ‘Surf Management Plan’. On the 26th of February the Gold Coast City Council will vote on a proposal to offer the surfing community a say in strategic decision making, by partnering with the Surf Council to produce the world’s first city wide Surf Management Plan.
The Gold Coast is deemed the foremost surf city on earth with over 90% of the people distinguishing the beach as the utmost valuable life style component.
Co-convenors of the Gold Coast Surf Council, Dan Ware and Brad Farmer, have begun discussions with all stakeholders to maneuver the master plan forward. The Kirra meeting on February 19, formed an ‘Executive’ to generally meet monthly and the Surf Council to generally meet quarterly.
Ware and Farmer were endorsed as co-chairs to operate a vehicle the method forward. Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew AM will lay on the Surf Council Advisory Board, along side eminent surfing elders and coastal experts. Chris Butler has been elected Council Secretary.
Ware and Farmer will tell the World wide Surf Cities Conference to held at Kirra a few weeks (27/2) that the style and execution of a Surf Council and Surf Management Plan will finally elevate surfers to become key players in decisions, which affect the coastal zone and the surfers life style.
It's envisaged that each and every major surf region on earth will generate a Surf Management Plan and a regional Surf Council. Approximately surfing contributes $3b to the Gold Coast economy.
