Mark Richards may be the most influential surfer in Australia
Mark Richards and Stephanie Gilmore have already been honoured at the Australian Surfing Awards, in Sydney, through the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Surfing Australia.
Mark Richards is really a national institution. Named Australia's Most Influential Surfer 1963-2013, Richards is really a four-time world champion with 1000s of remarkable life stories.
Between 1979 and 1982, that he ruled the planet of surfing and became the initial surfer ever sold to take over the planet professional tour for a long period of time.
Mark Richards transformed the twin-fin surfboard right into a secret weapon, ideal for the gliding, swooping turns that he was renowned for.
Humble, funny, fast, professional and skillful, Richards is currently a master shaper and remains passionately mixed up in growth of surfing in Australia.
"It's an excellent honour and incredibly flattering and Personally i think incredible to be up here to get this award amongst so many great surfers", Richards said.
Mark was named probably the most Influential Surfer between 1963-2013, before Simon Anderson, Nat Young, Michael Peterson, Midget Farrelly, Tom Carroll, Layne Beachley, Wayne Bartholomew, Mark Occhilupo and Bob McTavish.
Stephanie Gilmore has been inducted in to the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame. The 25-year old champion was raised in Kingscliff, in northern New South Wales.
"This is this honour. Everybody in the Hall of Fame has already established this incredible effect on the planet of surfing also to be contained in that's unreal", Gilmore said.
