Jake Sylvester wins the Burton Toyota Pro Junior 2013
Jake Sylvester has claimed Burton Toyota Pro Junior 2013, at Surfest, Newcastle, Australia.
Sylvester defeated 15-year-old Kanoa Igarashi, from Huntington Beach, to claim the crown for the 2nd time, in half-to-one metre waves at Merewether beach.
In his last appearance in a professional Junior in Australia, the 20-year-old natural-footer saved his most useful for last, accumulating the whole event's highest heat score with the 18. 5 tallied in the last.
"It's awesome. I'm amazing. Kicking off with that nine after which backing it up with another was huge. I felt really comfortable towards the conclusion with those two scores. It's so great to win in the home facing family and friends, says Sylvester.
Ellie-Jean Coffey, from Cowes, defeated ASP Junior Women's world champion Nikki Van Dijk.
"It feels great to win here in 2010 after getting 2nd a year ago. Obtaining the priority system is truly good since you can pick your waves wisely", she said.
In the Sanbah Cadet Cup, Avoca Beach's Sandon Whittaker won the Under 14 division, Margaret River's Jacob Willcox took the Under 16 final and Caringbah's Paris Whittaker won the Girl's division.
